ICS Monographs

The East Asia Programme of the ICS has started the East Asia Series (Brij Tankha editor) to publish monographs and occasional papers covering subjects in history, political science, economics, culture, translations, and other areas relevant to the region.

The 'China in the World' research programme at the ICS aims to demystify China's place in the World and understand the granular details of its increasing global footprint. To this end, in 2018, Dr. Veda Vaidyanathan at the ICS began analysing the quickly evolving dynamics between China and countries in Africa, with funding from TATA Trusts.

Debasish Chaudhuri’s latest monograph is an important study combining serious desk research with empirical perceptions collated over many years by the author in his fieldwork. While the broad subject is one visited by him in a full-fledged work some years ago, the monograph breaks new ground and brings fresh detail and perspectives from a range of Chinese official and non-official material as well as other external research.

The study titled 'China's Infrastructure Development in Africa: An Examination of Projects in Tanzania and Kenya' was undertaken as part of the 'China in the World' research programme at the Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS).

This monograph intends to reflect on the idea of development as a problem of political economy. By examining China's uneven, awkward and often times enigmatic socioeconomic transformations since the mid-1960s, the author substantiates the following two central claims.

This edited volume is a collection of papers presented at the International Seminar on "Challenges to Health Service Systems in Transition: China and India". The authors are public health scholars from various institutes and universities from Beijing, Delhi and Shanghai.

This work is an effort to catalogue materials related to modern China in the National Archives of India (NAI). This is the first ever publication catalogued materials related to China in the Special Collections of the NAI.
