Wriju Banerjee is a Research Intern at the Institute of Chinese Studies, and a Doctoral Scholar at the Centre for East Asian Studies in Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He holds a Master's degree in Political Science from University of Hyderabad. His research work aims at examining the resilience of socialism as a legitimising discourse in post-reform China, with a focus on how the Communist Party of China mobilises ideological frameworks such as ‘Socialism with Chinese Characteristics’ to manufacture continuity, secure legitimacy, and regulate political contestation across different historical conjunctures. His research interests include state–society relations in China, the role of ideology and legitimacy in CPC rule, labour and rural protests, and comparative approaches to climate policy in India and China.
