Atman Deshpande is a Research Intern at the Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS), New Delhi, and is currently pursuing the Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) at IIM Indore. His academic training spans economics, political science, statistics, and world politics, shaping a strong interdisciplinary approach to understanding global development trajectories. His research interests lie at the intersection of political economy, industrial policy, and global value chains, with a particular focus on East Asia. His current research examines the institutional drivers behind China’s transition from a low-cost manufacturing hub to a leader in high-technology sectors, and evaluates the applicability of these models within India’s democratic and federal framework. Atman has prior experience with both qualitative and quantitative research, including data-driven analysis and policy-oriented projects. Beyond academics, he has been actively involved in debate and policy discussions, with achievements in Model United Nations and national-level competitions. He was also part of the organizing team for TEDx, where he worked on speaker curation, reflecting his interest in engaging with diverse ideas and shaping meaningful public conversations. His broader interests include geopolitics, emerging technologies, public policy, and the evolving dynamics of global economic power.
