Events > Wednesday Seminars
This seminar seeks to focus on China’s environmental diplomacy with the US, a superior power and India, a developing nation. It involves a mixed approach to analyze the factors that encourage China to cooperate with the two countries and the challenges faced by China vis-a-vis its engagement with both. China uses its environmental diplomacy to further its national interests of sovereignty and economic growth and pushes its diplomatic priorities including socio-economic growth and international status, through its environmental cooperation with India and the US. The presentation would highlight a shift in the PRC’s discourse after the signing of the Kyoto Protocol. The rise of China has further complicated its engagement with both India and the United States. As it emerges as the second largest economy as well as the largest emitter of greenhouse gases, it faces a complex and a unique challenge at the international climate change negotiations. This presentation would analyse the implications of China’s environmental strategies for India, an aspiring major power in Global South.
