Abstract
The United States faces three major security issues in the coming decades: the rise of China; insecurity in the Middle East its blowback in Europe and America; the reassertion of Russia's role in the world. How will the US manage and rank order these three challenges particularly the rise of China? The issue is important since in an era of budget constraints and a weakening in the capabilities of allies, the choices made by US policymakers will be crucial in maintaining America's strategic position in the international system.
