Abstract In recent months, the Chinese government has stepped up efforts for international recognition of the situation in Tibet. From opening up for 12 million tourists, to openly admitting to talks with the Dalai Lama, to holding the Tibetan Forum on Development-attended by several parliamentarians from other countries-that concluded in August with a note on ‘Lhasa Consensus’, it would seem evident that China has a new-found confidence in its control over the autonomous region. What are the visible changes, and what sort of adjustments should they inspire in India's policy in the region? |
