Abstract
Recent criticisms of West-centric IR theories have provoked an acute question – whose world are we after all, talking about? Euro-centric conceptions of world politics here mean the ‘West-failure’ of the discipline, even as we witness serious efforts to reformulate IR through multiple lenses. The presentation will focus on China’s challenge in handling the issue. The ‘Chinese School’ is currently exerting influence in changing the foundation of IR theory in two ways – redefining the international through inter-civilizational components and, reshaping the idea of an international society through Confucian ideals. This Chinese effort is in essence a reinterpretation of a world that once existed in the Chinese world view.
