Abstract: The China-Bangladesh relationship is an ideal case to study in the arena of international relations, as how two past adversaries can transform their relationship into friendship. The China and Bangladesh relationship was not very smooth in the beginning. Soon after independence of Bangladesh, China not only declined to recognize the country but also blocked its entry into the United Nations. Now, the China-Bangladesh relationship has transformed completely and the two countries regard one another as a trusted ally and an all-weather friend. This presentation will try to focus on the evolution of China-Bangladesh Relations, and factors that contributed to the growth of the relationship. The presentation will also try to analyse, what all these mean to India. |
About the Speaker: Dr. Joyeeta Bhattacharjee is a Fellow, South Asia Programme, in the Observer Research Foundation. Bhattacharjee joined ORF in 2006 after completing her PhD from Assam University, Silchar. Her main area of research is Bangladesh’s politics, foreign and security policies and India-Bangladesh relations and she has contributed essays and analysis in variety of scholarly journals. |
