Brainstorming For An ICS-HYI Intiative: Workshop On Wheels | 10 December 2025 @ 2:00PM - 5:00 PM IST

10 Dec 2025
Venue: Conference Room II, India International Centre, New Delhi
Time: 2:00 PM

The Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS) is launching a new initiative titled Workshop on Wheels to strengthen higher research on China in India and enhance the quality of applications to the ICS–HYI Multi-Year Doctoral Fellowship, in collaboration with the Harvard-Yenching Institute. Envisioned as a mobile academic engagement programme, the initiative will organise interactive workshops across universities, bringing together students and faculty to identify and mentor promising scholars. As part of this effort, ICS is holding a brainstorming session on 10 December 2025 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the India International Centre.

The brainstorming session will deliberate on formats, outreach strategies, and institutional collaboration to build a stronger national pipeline of China scholars. It will aim to conceptualise a structured national outreach and mentorship programme to strengthen research capacity on China among Indian students. It will seek to diagnose the existing gaps in fellowship outreach, application quality, and institutional research preparedness, with the objective of identifying structural and mentorship challenges within Indian universities. This will also aim to jointly co-create a model for the Workshop on Wheels, including its structure, modules, mentorship framework, faculty and alumni engagement, and delivery format. The rollout strategy, identifying target universities, partnership models, and outreach mechanisms to expand the initiative across Delhi–NCR and nationally over a three- to five-year period would be discussed. The workshop aims to identify the key challenges, draft a structural model for the initiative, and a preliminary implementation roadmap to strengthen China-focused research training and field-work preparedness among emerging scholars in India.
