Samar Tyagi > Past Interns
Samar Tyagi is a Research Intern at the Institute of Chinese Studies. As part of a research project, sponsored by Govt. of Bihar, to document Bihar’s development journey, he has done extensive field survey in Gaya (Bihar). He has also led a group of 50 students from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, with Dr. Reetika Khera (IIT Delhi) to Jayapur village for evaluating the performance of Public Distribution System and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. Currently, he is working on analysing trends in Sino-Indian Bilateral Trade and fiscal decentralisation in China.
His areas of interest are International Economic Relations and evaluating public programs.
China gives an enormous amount of aid to African countries in the form of grants, interest-free loans and concessional (or preferential) loans. Findings reveal that a one per cent increase in aid allocation to Africa is associated with 0.6 per cent increase in bilateral trade, signifying that the ‘aid for trade’ hypothesis holds true.
India and China are arguably set to change the order of multilateral governance. Given their increasing economic size and population, the influence of China and India in global affairs is increasing.
