Chitra Nair is a Research Intern at the Institute of Chinese Studies. She is currently in her second year of an undergraduate program at FLAME University, Pune. She is majoring in International Relations and minoring in Environmental Studies. She has completed courses like International Organisations, International Relations Theory, Political Geography, Indian Government and Politics, Environmental Law and Governance, etc. Her research interests lie in gender studies, particularly examining the dynamics of gender and sexuality in China and other East Asian nations.
This paper aims to delve into the concept of “queerness” within the context of gender and its specific manifestations in China. The focus is to explore the ways in which “queerness” is expressed and dealt with in Chinese society, and how it challenges the traditional gender norms and identities.
