Delegation Visit from the School of Politics and Public Administration, South China Normal University, Guangzhou

On 30 July 2026, the Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS), New Delhi, hosted a delegation from the School of Politics and Public Administration, South China Normal University (SCNU), Guangzhou, for an engaging academic interaction. The delegation was led by Prof. Wan Xiaohong, Vice Dean, and comprised Prof. Zeng Lu and Prof. Li Xiaodan, Assistant Professor, whose research focuses on Indian party politics and China- India clean energy cooperation. The interaction was attended by the Director, Fellows, Faculty Associates, and Research Scholars of the Institute. The ICS was represented by Prof. Alka Acharya, Director, Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS); Prof. Sreemati Chakrabarti, Chairperson, Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS), and Former Professor, Department of East Asian Studies, University of Delhi; Col. Virendra Sahai Verma (Retd.), Emeritus Fellow, Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS); Mr. Ravi Bhoothalingam, Emeritus Fellow, Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS); Prof. Biswajit Dhar, Honorary Fellow, Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS), Development Economist, and Former Professor, Jawaharlal Nehru University; Dr. Rityusha Mani Tiwary, Honorary Fellow, Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS), and Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, University of Delhi; Prof. Sabaree Mitra, Honorary Fellow, Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS), and Professor, Centre for East Asian Studies, School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University; Mr. Santosh Pai, Honorary Fellow, Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS); and Mr. Anand P. Krishnan, Adjunct Fellow, Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS), and Visiting Faculty, National Law School of India University, Bengaluru. Research scholars from the Institute of Chinese Studies and University of Delhi also participated in the interaction.

The discussion focused on the historical evolution and contemporary trajectory of India- China relations, examining the major phases of bilateral engagement since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1950. Participants reflected on recent positive developments, including the resumption of high- level diplomatic exchanges, border disengagement, restoration of connectivity, and the growing scope of economic cooperation. The dialogue also addressed persistent challenges such as the boundary question, trade imbalance, geopolitical competition, regional security, and differing strategic perspectives on initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative. The interaction underscored the need for sustained political dialogue, effective management of bilateral differences, enhanced economic cooperation, and greater academic and people to people exchanges to foster mutual trust and contribute to a stable, constructive, and forward looking India China relationship.
